Explosive Hitting Package

Hitting off the tee

One of the most effective youth baseball hitting drills is hitting off the tee. One reason is this baseball hitting drill is appropriate for all ages of baseball players. It is a perfect youth baseball hitting drill station. That being said don’t just use it as an extra station and let players whack away. Many coaches do this and it is ineffective. Players should be focusing on fundamentals and developing those hitting skills in all youth baseball hitting drills.

Why is it an effective youth baseball hitting drill ?

The tee is the best solution for just about any hitting problem. When we talk about “keeping it simple,” that’s just what the tee does. It always throws a perfect strike and never tries to deceive the hitter. Whether a hitter is having an issue with their stride, the timing of their weight shift, or just about anything, the tee provides a solution that allows the hitter to slow everything down and work on each aspect of the swing piece by piece.

Objective of this baseball hitting drill

When working off the tee, the objective is always to work on repetitions of a quality swing. Typically, you want to set the tee up so it replicates where you would be making contact with a pitch thrown right down the middle. That’s why you set the tee up out in front of your body, because that’s where you want to make contact to drive the ball to the big part of the field.

Set Up for Hitting off the tee youth baseball hitting drill

Here are a few different scenarios for setting up the tee to work on youth baseball hitting ..

The Corners – it’s great if you can drop the tee right in front of home plate (not on home plate) and actually stand in the batter’s box to take your cuts. This gives you a good reference point to move the tee to the inside and outside parts of the plate.
When moving to the inside part of the plate, you want to move the tee further out in front of your body because you need to connect earlier on inside pitches.
For the outside corner, move the tee back more – hitters must wait longer on outside pitches and hit them deeper in the zone. Setting up at home plate to work on hitting inside and outside pitches also helps to show the hitter where the ball should go – try to pull inside pitches and try to slap outside pitches the other way. (Notice we don’t always try to pull the ball as many coaches and parents think )

High-Tee – For hitters who struggle to stay on top of the ball and hit a lot of weak pop ups, place a bucket under the tee. This will raise the point of contact to the highest part of the strike zone, where a hitter won’t be able to generate any really power unless he or she manages to stay on top of the ball.

Big-Ball Tee – For hitters who struggle to swing through the ball, we sometimes place a soccer ball or other large ball on the tee (it helps to place a plunger, upside-down, in the base of the tee in order to easily hold the larger ball in place). Players have to really shift their weight and swing through the ball in order to hit it with any authority off the tee.

Conclusion
When you set a tee down or have a station for youth baseball hitting using the tee, be sure and give your players specific things to work on: weight shift, hitting out in front, a level swing, coordinating the timing between the lower and top-half of the body, etc. DO NOT simply let your hitters blast away on the tee without putting any thought into it. That just wastes everyone’s time.

Here are some tips from Coach Brockoff to help your youth baseball player be a better hitter.

We usually see this during practice practices (BP) Hitters who take every pitch in this manner get pops, chops, and routine ground balls with every pitch. In fact, the going rate of hard hits is three or four out of ten.

Instead, try my proven Power-10 baseball hitting drill, which will help players hit the ball hard with super contact every time. Power-10 drills used in batting practices will train hitters to hit each ball well, making practices more meaningful. Hitters will concentrate more on hitting the balls hard and sharply, rather than hitting everything deep. As you see below, this method is proven by improved batting averages.

Efficiency at least 80%: batting average over.400

Efficiency at least 70-80%: mid.300 batting average

Efficiency less than 70%: .280-.300 batting average

Youth Baseball Pitching Drills

The youth baseball pitcher is one of the most important players, and the only way he can improve his technique is by regularly practicing some baseball pitching drills. These drills contribute to the growth of a player, and help him become better and more effective.

Youth Baseball pitching drills enable a pitcher to get more force, velocity and curve behind his pitch, and in the long run this is a major help for every baseball team. The pitcher is one of the most important players of a team, and it is imperative that his pitching skills be nothing less than perfect. The level of perfection and effectiveness that is desired can only be reached by constantly practicing some baseball pitching drills in order to develop a better throwing arm and technique.

The importance of youth baseball pitching drills are more than just getting a stronger and faster throw. These drills are practiced extensively by players from the Major League Baseball, and all the famous baseball players know that baseball pitching drills carry the following benefits:

* Reducing the possibility and risk of serious injuries.
* Improve the accuracy and the control of the baseball while throwing.
* Develop and master proper pitching techniques and mechanics.
* Increase the velocity and movement of the baseball while pitching.
* Develop greater muscle strength in the throwing arm.
* Make the baseball training enjoyable and fun.

It’s true that the sooner a player starts practicing these youth baseball pitching drills the more beneficial it will be for him and his team. There are plenty of baseball pitching drills for youth that can really hone the talent and skill of a young player.

Have the best pitching team in your league!

Baseball Pitching Drills – One Knee Drill

The purpose of this drill is to improve the arm action of the pitcher, and give better control. If the pitcher is right handed then he needs to get down on his right knee. Now he must hold the baseball in his hand and swing his arm around a few times. Next he must throw the ball to the catcher, and should follow through on the pitch with his elbow bent and with the elbow crossing over the opposite knee.

Youth Baseball Pitching Drills – Bucket Drill

The purpose of this drill is to enable proper follow through as well, and it teaches the baseball player how to brace up his leg after pitching the baseball. The position is the same one-kneed one as for the one knee drill, and the only difference is that the right foot is placed upon an inverted bucket while pitching. As soon as the baseball leaves the hand the pitcher must stand up and keep his right leg up off the ground.

Youth Baseball Pitching Drills – Pause and Balance Drill

This is a good pitching drill for a beginner level pitcher who is having difficulty getting his throwing action and follow through correctly. A coach is required to be present next to the pitcher. The pitcher does not have a baseball in his hand and pretends that he is going to pitch the ball, and carries out all the necessary actions. The coach may ask the player to pause at any time and hold the current position for balance. He then proceeds to tell the player how to correct the posture, and then hands him the baseball and tells him to continue. The moment at which the player pauses and gets the baseball depends upon the coach and no one else. You may also like to learn some baseball fielding drills and baseball hitting drills.

Youth Baseball Pitching Drills – Quick Hands Drill

This drill is meant to improve throwing velocity and technique using muscle memory. Muscle memory is a pretty complex term which implies that the more you practice a particular sequence of movements, the easier it will be to perform. Keeping this is mind, it is important to practice the proper pitching techniques, without a baseball in the hand, a number of times in rapid succession. By doing so, an imprint of the movements stays in the muscles and it becomes easier to throw a faster and stronger pitch. Carry out the pitching movements, but remember to not move your feet. Keep them planted in a stationary position at all times.

Youth Baseball Drill | Hot Potato Youth Baseball Drill

This youth baseball drill is a youth baseball fielding drill to develop soft hands and quick under hand soft throws as though the team member tossing the baseball was a 2nd baseman making a short close toss to the shortstop or vice versa. Another instance is the first baseman tossing to the pitcher covering first. Another real game example for this youth baseball drill is the catcher tossing a passed ball to the youth baseball player covering home.

Hot Potato Youth Baseball Drill

The whole team stands in a circle about 15 ft. in diameter around the pitcher’s mound to prepare for this youth baseball drill.
Using their bare hands, each team member must under hand toss the ball to a random team member in the circle.
The team member catching the ball must catch with their bare hand and throw to another random team member in the circle.
If a team member drops the ball or makes a bad toss, they are out of the circle. The baseball coach is the referee in all cases.

After a few practices of doing this drill, you then let them add their glove to the drill. I use bare hands in many cases with youth baseball players, getting them use to catching the ball properly.
Another addition to enhance the youth baseball drill is while the team members are tossing the baseball to and from each other.. the coach can chant “faster, faster” to add pressure to the situation just like in a game.

As a coach be sure and demonstrate the proper way for a toss. We don’t won’t the hand to go to high causing a lob with the ball. Step toward the player short quick toss with the tossing hand extended toward the target.

Youth Baseball Drills|Basic Bunt Defense

To begin this youth baseball drill, first we put a pitcher on the mound, a catcher behind the plate (in full gear), a runner on first base, and/or second base.
We then need fielders at each of the infield positions and a batter in the box (with his helmet on). Extra players will be the bunters and base runners.

Pitchers work on holding runners and getting off the mound quickly to field bunts.
Catchers practice receiving the pitch and fielding bunts.
Infielders practice charging the bunt and cover the right base according to where the ball has been bunted.

Also in this youth baseball drill our offense will do some work as well.
Base runners work on seeing the bunt on the ground before breaking and the batter should work on recognizing the game situations that could call for a bunt.

As a youth baseball coach you can make this a competition. The offense gets 1 point every time a runner moves over and defense gets a point for getting the out at first. You could even give an additional point for getting the lead base runner. This competition makes the youth baseball drill more fun and puts a little game pressure on.

Warning…

This baseball coaching package won’t make you popular with opposing coaches.

How to WIN more games, have more FUN, and be the kind of youth baseball coach your player’s will LOVE and their parents will BRAG about. Finally, a baseball coaching package that has it all!

Youth Baseball Drills | First and Third situation

Use a pitcher, catcher, and a full infield. Place base runners at first base and third. This drill allows for game like situations for the offense and defense.

As a youth baseball coach you should consider making this into a game also to increase the intensity of the game like situation.

Offense will be practicing getting the runner from third home while the defense practices communication. A run down situation could occur here as well. Your players will have a chance to work on multiple individual and team fundamental skills in these youth baseball drills.

Our youth baseball drills don’t always have the desired results in youth baseball games. An 8 year old player came up to me a few days ago after batting practice, and said “I wish I hit like that in games”. Fact is..

He is the best hitter on the team but still needs instruction on pitch counts..approaches..

Every season I see youth baseball players hit the ball hard and hitting line drives while doing batting practice. We get to a game situation and it just does not happen. Infield does not miss a ball during practice.. Game situation..they crumble .

This is not new. It has baffled coaches for years. We (coaches and kids ) work on routine plays..till we get it right. But the game is non routine. When the game starts , the routines may have not been built into muscle memory. Actually a lot has to happen during a play from every player on the field.
Ready Position , Watching the Ball , Where do I go if I get the ball, where do I go if it’s not hit to me? , If the ball is not hit to me but to my side..where do I go?, where do I go if the ball is hit to the other side?..etc.
Key point is every has something to do no matter where the ball is or where it is hit to.. Actually ,The outfield should be more tired than anybody on the team.

Youth Baseball Drills Overload

All these things to do at certain times can relate to sensory overloads (plus Mom and Dad and other fans , giving instructions). Sensory overload causes a child to try and do to many tasks at once. This usually results in nothing happening and infield the park home runs.
Proper scenario is ..make the play the coach called , stop the runner . This does not mean stop the run at home.

If runners are on base many players experience overload,. A player should listen to the coach ,make the play..which may not work out. Thus players need to listen to the coaches next call . We practice this in our youth baseball drills in situational practice.

Reaction to situations takes time, hell..pros are still working on it. Do the right thing at the right time. It is hard to do but if you follow your coaches commands..you will have done the right thing and become a coachable player. If the result does not work out..thats ok..just do the right thing.

Note: I have seen Many..many coaches make the wrong calls..once a player has enough knowledge..he still needs to follow the coaches call..but he can and should address with his coach and parents. If he is a pitcher and does not like the call( 12 ish) he needs to confer with the coach. The pitcher and catcher are setting the field..or at least learning to..

Youth Baseball Drills-Situational

Thus, for situational practice.. we actually set our players in the positions..and use extra players(siblings, parents) as base runners.

Conclusion
As Always ,we recommend rotating your players in groups for the half of practice. Then do some situational practice with an entire field set and some base runners. Finish with a competition. . This is a fun active way to actually learn basic skills , play baseball, have fun , and control youth baseball drills and situational play.
